Sparkling – Popcorn / Potato Chips

Recipe Date: April 30, 2020
Difficulty: Easy
Measurements: Imperial (US)

Salt and crunch go really well with sparkling and a fun relaxed way to enjoy a bottle is to make a fresh bowl of popcorn or crack open a bag of potato chips.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of canola, grape seed or other high smoke point oil
  • 1.5 tablespoons of butter
  • 1/2 cup popcorn (Belden Barns grown popcorn, of course)

Directions

Put oil in heavy bottomed pot over medium high heat.  Add three kernels of popcorn.

Once a kernel pops, add butter, then popcorn.  Place lid on pot offset so steam can escape but popcorn will remain in pot.  Swirl the pot to incorporate butter and level the kernels.

Once kernels start to pop, shake the pot periodically to move the unpopped kernels to the bottom of the pot.  When the frequency of the popping slows markedly, remove pot from stove and dump popcorn in bowl.  Top with salt and/or some of the following fun combos:

Nutritional Yeast (don’t use butter when popping for a vegan option)

Dried Rosemary

Parmesan Cheese
